M1/M10 Beechtree Interchange signs (original?)

These pictures show a butterfly sign truss which was probably installed at the nosing of the slip road connecting the M1 southbound to the M10 eastbound at the Beechtree Interchange in Hertfordshire. All three pictures are extracted from a single black-and-white print in P.R.O. file MT 126/1. The butterfly truss shown probably predates May 1962, when the Ministry of Transport decided to add upward-pointing arrows to butterfly signs (obliquely upwards on the M10 panel and straight upwards on the M1 panel). The car under the sign is pointed in the wrong direction (!) and was probably driven down the slip road by a contractor's representative or Ministry official while the motorway was closed to traffic.
